Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy 30-31

Tomorrow is our last day in Deuteronomy.  You made it through the Numbers and Leviticus and aren’t you glad you did!

Chapter 30.   Moses completed all three of his speeches and only has few last things to do.  Moses meets with God and Joshua, and he writes the Law word for word.   The national leaders were to read this law to the whole nation every seventh (sabbatical) year, at the Feast of Tabernacles.  Two scriptures stood out to me personally:

14  the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.

19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.

Chapter 31. Insert a big sad face emoji!

Moses commission s Joshua to the tent of meeting to hear from God.  Joshua was chosen because of his faith the first time they tried to enter the land 40 years ago in Numbers 13-14.  Joshua is the son of Nun.  He comes from the tribe of Ephraim.

Then from Ephraim:

The Genealogy of Ephraim in 1 Chronicles 7:20-27

God tells him to be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified.  I will bring you into this land BECAUSE I promised Abraham I would.  BUT (it is a big But!)….these people will be a hot mess!

20 When I have brought them into the land flowing with milk and honey, the land I promised on oath to their ancestors, and when they eat their fill and thrive, they will turn to other gods and worship them, rejecting me and breaking my covenant. 21 And when many disasters and calamities come on them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants.

The book of the Law was written word for word and was placed beside the Ark of the Covenant.  The Ark contained Aaron’s budded rod, manna, and the tablets.  It is no wonder Indian Jones was looking for it!

So tomorrow is choir practice as 3 million people learn the song of Moses and we finish Deuteronomy!

    1. I was bored this morning and watched a show called “The Soup” on E!. Oh My! I once was at a neighbors house and the husband (a youth pastor) was watching “The View”. I was curious and asked him why he was watching it. He replied, “to keep in touch with the thoughts of worldly views”. We don’t need to go far to see how far we are from the Lord.
